New Broughton is one of the UK’s most exciting regeneration projects. Located in Salford, its aim is to revitalise an area totalling 74 hectares during the next 10-15 years at an anticipated cost of £500 million. The project will provide a new sustainable community of over 3,500 mixed tenure homes and a full range of community facilities and services including shops, leisure facilities, employment for local people alongside new training and education facilities.

The project has been developed over the past two and a half years between Countryside Properties, Salford City Council and Contour Housing Group (the social landlord for phase one) in conjunction with the local community. Numerous consultation events have taken place over this period, including one-to-one home visit to all residents affected by the first and second stage of the development.

The first phase is now well underway and includes an area of 22.68 acres, comprising 432 one and two bedroom apartments and three and four bedroom houses. Most of the properties have NOW been sold and include a large proportion of private and Contour residents who have already moved into their new homes.

Salford City Council has just granted planning permission for the next phase which covers 4.209 acres and includes 160 apartments in five blocks alongside 37 family houses, car parking, open space together with improved road access. The site is located on Lucy Street at the junction of Camp Street and Great Clowes Street. Plans are afoot to begin the next phase of community consultation. Watch this space for further details!
