The New Broughton project, in Lower Broughton, is one of the country’s largest and most ambitious regeneration schemes, with 3,500 new homes, a new primary school, recreation and open space along with new retail and local facilities.
Countryside Properties scooped the award in the Regeneration Category of the Manchester Evening News Residential Property Awards, held at the Midland Hotel.
Les Brown, Regional Project Director for Countryside Properties accepted the award on behalf of the team and was accompanied to the event by directors and colleagues including Managing Director Ian Kelley.
Les said: “We are truly delighted about this award. It’s great recognition for the New Broughton development which is already transforming the Lower Broughton area with the introduction of new homes and facilities and harnessing and building on the strong sense of community that exists there. From the outset, there’s been a partnership approach with ourselves, Salford City Council, Urban Vision, Contour Homes and the community working together and that will continue as we move forward with the scheme.”
Also attending the event in support of the New Broughton project, were Malcolm Sykes, Strategic Director of Housing and Planning for Salford City Council and Richard Wynne, Director of the Council’s partnership organisation, Urban Vision. Added Leader of Salford City Council , Cllr John Merry:
"The redevelopment of Lower Broughton is one of the largest and most ambitious regeneration schemes in the country and it is fantastic it has been recognised with this award.
"We and our partners have a real passion and belief in this scheme and while we're working to attract new residents to the area, we're grounded in meeting the needs of local people and retaining the area's strong sense of community."
The first phase of the New Broughton development has been completed and has succeeded in not only providing new homes for existing residents, but has also brought new residents into the Lower Broughton area who have an investment in the area’s regeneration. Work on the next phase of New Broughton project has just started with the development of houses, apartments and open space. The new work is at the junction of Great Clowes Street and Camp Street in Lower Broughton.
