Broughton Rangers rise again!
THE FAMOUS name of Broughton Rangers has returned as a grassroots club with the backing of Salford City Reds.
Rangers – the first side to win the championship and Challenge cup double in 1901/2 – are now looking for players, coaches and administrators.
The Reds have linked up with Countryside Properties and applied for a National Sports Foundation grant. The idea is to resurrect the old club and play on playing fields on the site of Countryside development in Broughton.
The original Broughton Rangers played the All Golds on their 1907/08 tour. In October, Steve Price and Robbie Paul launched the new set-up that will hopefully see Ranger’s playing in next year’s Rugby League’s Conference. The club also hopes to run junior sides.
