Salford City Council is engaged in major regeneration in many parts of the city and has adopted a forward thinking, modern partnership approach to major regeneration.

Our overarching vision for Lower Broughton is to regenerate and improve the area to:

  • create a desirable and positive place to live
  • sustain and enhance existing communities
  • create a place that people value and where they are prepared to invest

We have formed a long term integrated development agreement which requires Countryside Properties and the city council to work together and recycle funds within the area to enable a comprehensive approach to be taken.

The redevelopment relies upon the latent asset value within the land owned by the city council and the development expertise of Countryside Properties.  Some housing market renewal fFunding is being used although this is subject to pay back as the development proceeds.

Depending upon individual phases, additional involvement from other partners such as Contour Housing Association Limited and Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company will be utilised in order to address specific needs.

The council's role is not limited to being a partner in the regeneration but also as the provider of all other local government statutory services.

The partnership will run until 2017. All parties are pleased to see the first works started and the first new homes being made available for occupation in 2007.

The partnership approach and comprehensive nature of redevelopment enables the parties to address major issues such as flood relief which in a smaller scale development would be impossible to resolve.
