As highlighted in the last issue of the newsletter, fly tipping has long been an issue in Lower Broughton and, as a result, Salford City Council has been working hard to eradicate specific issues that the local community face on a day-to-day basis.  Over the past couple of months a number of initiatives have been introduced to help wipe out fly tipping.  These include:

  • The creation of a new job to deal with fly tipping in the area.  This new position will monitor the situation and help identify who is to blame and should lead to a number of prosecutions.  If convicted, offenders can now be fined up to £50,000 and receive five years imprisonment.
  • Salford City Council's Enforcement and Education Staff becoming actively involved with residents.  This will be by attending Riverside Island Tenants Association meetings.
  • Salford City Council's agreement to action various pieces of activity to ensure the development and future of Albert Park.  This activity will include various measures including restricting access to motor vehicles and the problems they cause; extending the park ranger scheme and employing extra staff to provide a visible presence within the park; working closely with the Police to deal with the problem of night time drinking in the park and the debris it produces; and enforcing fixed penalty legislation to deal with dog fouling and litter within the park.

If you notice any fly tipping please telephone Salford City Council on 0161 925 1022.
